Nearly 1 in 5 Americans have a disability, making people with disabilities the largest minority group. The Health & Disabilities department advocates for people of all ages with disabilities in the greater Santa Clara community.

HOPE SERVICES
Program Coordinator: Mae McGivney (memcgivney@scu.edu)

Hope Services is a local organization dedicated to offering community and services to adults and children with developmental disabilities! Volunteers will get the opportunity to socialize and assist in teaching skills to adults within the EMCC department (Employment, Media & Community Connections).

COLLEGE OF ADAPTIVE ARTS

The College of Adaptive Arts’ mission is to provide an equitable, lifelong collegiate experience for adults with disabilities who have historically been excluded from higher education. Volunteers will assist students during classes and help with class set up and clean up.

RECIPES FOR RELIEF

Recipes for Relief cooks and provides warm meals for families at Loaves & Fishes. Loaves & Fishes provides

hot and nutritious prepared meals, delivered and served to feed anyone experiencing hunger, homelessness or food insecurity in the Bay Area.

SENIOR CONNECTIONS

Senior Connections is a great way to engage with the elderly in our community at Live Oak Senior Center! We play bingo, build community, and learn from a generation with so much wisdom to offer. They are so grateful for the time we spend together, and it’s so much fun!

SPECIAL OLYMPICS

Join us in participating in Special Olympics of Northern California sports each season. We will be coaching, playing, and enjoying various sports with athletes of all ages. No experience coaching or playing sports is required.

Hi! My name is Olivia Marx and I am a senior majoring in Economics. I am from Denver, Colorado and I love everything outdoors! I enjoy hiking, baking with my friends, and reading in the Rose Garden. I’ve always had a passion for working with the elderly and was thrilled to serve as the Senior Connections Program Coordinator for two years. Now, I'm super excited to lead the H&D Department!

Hi! My name is Mae McGivney, and I’m a junior majoring in English. I’m originally from Ho-Ho-Kus, New Jersey, but SCU has truly become my home away from home. In my free time, I love reading, running, and hiking. I discovered my passion for working with kids through volunteering with Blooming Minds my freshmen year, and I’m so excited to be the Hope Services PC for a second year!

I'm passionate about supporting community health by increasing access to healthy food and other essential services.
